ABC service stations are a vital part of Finnish mindscape: they function as a meeting points during our travels. ABC wanted to deepen its connection with Finland and Finnish people by creating a unique series of radio plays with Finlandia-award winning author Jukka Viikilä and Radio Nova. And so a 42-part series called “The ABCs of Finland” was created.
In 2017 The ABCs of Finland was listened to by over 500 000 Finns every weekend. The plays revolve around the Finnish people and how they relate to things and every day phenomena: relatives, money, coffee, holidays or greed for example.
The series proved out to be a success. Otava, the leading publisher of prose, decided to release the texts as a book in the year 2018.
Somewhere between high literature and ABC is a nation that wants to understand itself.
